Ethiopia: Raya under destruction

Raya refers a tract of land stretching from Ala wuha in the south to Alaje in the north. That is bigger than Adwa and Axum awrajas combined. Historically, this is where the Weyane rebellion started in 1928 as a spontaneous reaction to a repressive system of the time. Originating in their present day Kobo wereda, the revolt would quickly spread to cover the entire Raya and Wejerat provinces.

In Somalia (175th, -11) 18 journalists were killed, caught up in bomb attacks or the direct targets of murder, making 2012 the deadliest in history for the country’s media. The Horn of Africa state was the second most dangerous country in the world for those working in news and information, behind Syria.

     ‹‹የቃሊቲ ምስጢሮች›› የሚለውን መጽሐፍ ለመቃኘት ወደድኩ፡፡

ወዳጄ ጋዜጠኛ ሲሳይ አጌና ‹‹የቃሊቲው መንግስት›› የሚል መጽሐፍ ማሳተሙን በኢትዮጵያ ነፃ ጋዜጠኞች ፎረም እና ማህበራዊ ድረ-ገጾች ላይ ማስታወቂያ አየሁና ተደሰትኩ፡፡ ምክንያቱም ቃሊቲ የታጎሩትን የፖለቲካ ትኩሳቶች፣ አፈናዎች..የመሳሰሉትን ያስቃኘናል ብዬ ነው፡፡ ሲሳይን እንኳን ደስ ያለህ ያልኩት ከልብ ነበር፡፡ ደስታዬን ለእሱ አደረስኩና መፀሐፏን ፍለጋ በየአቅጣጫው አዳረስኩ፡፡ መጽሐፏን ለማንበብ ጓጉቼ ነበር እና ኢትዮጵያ ከገባ፣ ካገኙት እንዲያመጡልኝ ከየመን የሚመላለሱ ነጋዴዎችን ተማጸንኩ፡፡ የየመናዊያንን አባባል ያስታወሰኝ ክስተት ተከሰተ፡፡ ‹‹የቃሊቲው መንግስት›› የሚለውን ሳይሆን ‹‹የቃሊቲ ምስጢሮች›› የሚል በጋዜጠኛ ወሰንሰገድ ገ/ኪዳን የተጻፈ መጽሐፍ አመጡልኝ፡፡ ‹‹ምነው ያልኩሽ መጽሀፍ የለም?›› አልኩ፡፡ ያው ነው ያንን ስላጣሁ ይሄም ስለቃሊቲ ነው የሚያወራው ብዬ አመጣሁት አለችኝ፡፡

ኦ! ጋዜጠኞች አሁንስ ለህሊናችሁ፡ፖለቲከኛዎችም!!

በኢትዮጲያ በአሁኑ ወቅታዊ የፖለቲካ ሂደት ውስጥ ጋዜጠኞች ከመቼውም ጊዜ በላይ ሃላፊነትን የተሸከሙበት ወቅት ነው። በዚህ መልኩ ሃላፊነትን ተሸክመው ያለፉባቸውን እና በሃላፊነታቸውም የተነሳ ያረፈባቸው ጠባሳ ሳይረሳ ማለት ነው። የአሁኑ ደግሞ ታሪካዊ አደራ እና ሞያዊ ግዴታቸውን የሚወጡበት ወቅት በመሆኑ ከመቼውም በላይ ሃላፊነቱን ከበድ ያደርገዋል። በተጉዋዳኝ ሃገራችን ኢትዮጲያን እንደ ካንሰር ልበለው እንደ ነቀርሳ ላለፉት ሃያ አንድ አመታት በአምባ ገነንነት ከያዛት ገዢ ሃይል ለመላቀቅ በሚደረገው መስዋ ዕትነት ጠያቂ የትግል ጎራ ተቀላቅላችሁ የፊቱን መሪ በመያዝ በመዘወር ላይ የምትገኙቱም ጉምቱ እንዲሁም ወጣት ፖለቲከኛዎችም እንደዚሁ ትልቅ ሃላፊነትን የሚጠይቀውን ቦታ ተሸክማችሁዋል።  ስለዚህ በሌሎች መንገድ “ፖለቲካ ውሸት ነው” በሚለው ስልት እና መርህ እንድትራመዱ የኢትዮጲያ የፖለቲካ ታሪካዊ ወቅታዊ ሂደት አይፈቅድላችሁም። ይህ የሚሆን ከሆነ እውነተኛ ለውጥ በሚመጣበት ጊዜ ትልቅ ዋጋ ያስከፍላችሁዋል እና ለ እውነት መቆም ይጠበቅባችሁዋል።

Indian, Ethiopian activists against land grabbing meet in New Delhi

Lagos, Nigeria – The Indian Social Action Forum (INSAF) and the Oakland Institute in the US will convene a day-long summit on 6 February at the India International Centre, New Delhi, bringing together activists resisting land grabs across India and Ethiopia.

Ethiopian telecoms sector amongst most corrupt in country

The telecommunications sector in Ethiopia is one of the most prone to corruption, according to a much-anticipated World Bank report which shines light on the role of state-run operator Ethio-Telecom.

According to the “Diagnosing Corruption in Ethiopia” report, which analysed eight important industry sectors, the corruption within the sector is mainly due to the lack of accountability in the field and the monopoly currently operated by Ethio-Telecom.
