The apparent indifference of many Ethiopian intellectuals to the plight of the Ethiopian people and to the lack of democratic governance or their veiled support to a tyrannical government, mostly because of ethnic affiliations, is indeed appalling. Rather than a retort, this article is a complementary contribution with an eye to discerning the root of the derailment of Ethiopian intellectuals.

የዛሬው ማክሰኞ እንዳለፈው ሳምንት አይነት ማክሰኞ አይደለም። ምክንያቱም ብሄራዊ ቡድናችንን ከአለም ጋር ሆነን የምናይበት ቀን ስለሆነ ነው።

ከሰላሳ አንድ አመታት በኋላ ፆማችንን ፈተን በአፍሪካ ዋንጫ ለመሳተፍ እድሉን ማግኘታችን ትልቅ ድል፤ ትልቅ እድልም ነው። ብሄራዊ ቡድናችን የኢትዮጵያ ልጆች ለኳስ ባዳ እንዳልሆኑ ይልቁንም ትንሽ እሳት ቀረው እንጂ መጠነኛ ብስለት ቢታከልበት ኖሮ “አጃኢብ” የሚያሰኝ ቡድን ሊወጣው እንደሚችል ብዙዎች ሲስማሙ ሰምቻለሁ። እሳት ተብሎ የተገለፀው ልምድ ነው ለአንድ ቡድን ልምምድ ብቻ ሳይሆን ልምድም ጭምር በጣም ወሳኝ እንደሆነ ኤርሚያስ አማረም ፍስሀ ተገኝም ሲናገሩ ሰምቻለሁ።

ውድ አንባቢያን “ዘራፊ ሚሊየነሮች” ለሚለው ጽሁፍ ካደረሳችሁኝ መልሶች አጠር ያለውን አንዱን እንመልከትና ወደሚቀጥለው ጉዳይ እናመራለን።

“ወዳጄ ስለነዚህ እርጉም ሰዎች የጻፍከዉን ከማህደሬ አዉጥቼ ዛሬ አነበብኩት። እግዜር ይስጥህ። ምን እላለሁ። አፍዝ አደንግዝ እንደተደረገብን ሁሉ ዝም ብሎ ማየት ሁኗል ።ጉርሻ በሚሸጥበት አገር ሰዉ በቁንጣን አለቀ ሲሉን ለማመን ይዳዳናል። ምን አይነት እርጉም ወራዳ ትዉልድ እንደሆንን ነዉ የሚያሳየዉ። የትግሬ እና የሻቢያ ምሁራን ቀጥፈዉ ዋሽተዉ በድፍረት የሌለ ታሪክ ታሪክ አድርገዉ ተከታዮቻቸዉን እያሳመኑ ነዉ። የእኛ ምሁራን ደግሞ ሲሞዳሞዱ ጥቅም አይቅርብን ብለዉ ሲልከሰከሱ ስለኢትዮጵያ ከሞላ ጎደለ የሚጽፈዉ ያዘነልን ነጭ ሁኗል። ቢያስቡት ቢያስቡት መልስ የሌለዉ ነገር ነዉ። ነገር ግን ትግሬን ምን አደረግነዉ? ትግሬ ከሌሎች ወገኖች በላይ የደረሰበት በደል ምንድነዉ? ኢትዮጵያን ሊያጠፋ የተነሳበት ምክንያት ምንድነዉ? የሚለዉ ነገር ሁልጊዜ ጥያቄ ዉስጥ ይከተኛል።

ሕወሐት ለሁለት ተሰነጠቀ፤ ወረቀት ለአባለት ተበተነ ከኢየሩሳሌም አርአያ

ዛሬ በመቀሌ ለአባላ ትና አልፎም ለህዝቡ በተበተነ የትግርኛ ፅሁፍ እነ ስዩም መስፍን፣ አባይ ፀሐዬ፣ ፀጋዬ በርሔ ከነባለቤታቸው እንዲሁም ሌሎች ከድርጅቱ እንዲባረሩ በተበተነው መግለጫ ተጠቁሞዋል። በመግለጫው፥ ከጀርባ አሉ የተባሉትና « የዚህ መኅንዲስ» ተብለው የተፈረጁት ስብሃት ነጋ እርምጃ እንዲወሰድባቸው ከተባሉት መካከል በዋነኛነት ተፈርጀዋል።

አመልና ልማድ የትም ቢሆን አይለቅምና ከሃገርና ከህዝብ መዝረፍ የለመደው የወያኔ ህውሃት ቡድን ድንበር ተሻግሮ በኢትዮጲያ ቴሌቪዥን አማካኝነት ያልከፈለበትን የ29ኛው የአፍሪካ የእግር ኳስ ውድድር ማስተላለፉ ከነሱ አልፎ ቤሄራዊ ክብራችንን የሚነካ የወረደ ተግባር መሆኑ አስረጂ አያስፈልገውም፡፡ ስለሆነም በካፍ መግለጫ መሰረት የኢትዮጲያ ቴሌቪዥን በዚህ ሳይከፍል ሰርቆ ባስተላለፈው ስርጭት ላይ የሃገር ውስጥ እስፖንሰር አድራጊ ድርጅቶችን እየጠራ ተጨማሪ ገቢ ማግኘቱ ሌላው አሳፋሪ ተግባሩ ነው፡፡ የኢትዮጲያ እግር ኳስ ቡድን ከ31 ዐመታት በሗላ ለዚህ መድረሱ ህዝቡን ቢያሰደስተውም ጫወታውን በቀጥታ ለማስተላለፍ ግን የወያኔ መንግስት አቅም የለኝም ማለቱ ጫወታውን በጉጉት ለሚጠባበቀው ህዝብ በጣም አሳዛኝ ነው፡፡ 18 ሚሊዮን ብር እንኳን በዘረፋ ለደለበ የወያኔ ቡድን ቀርቶ ስርዓቱ ላፈራቸው ህገወጥ ባለሃብቶች በጣም ቀላል እንደ ሆነ ብዙዎች ይሰማማሉ፡፡ሆኖም ምኑም ባለየለት ምክንያት ህገወጥ ስርጭት በማስተላለፍ ቤሄራዊ ክብርን ማስነካት ይቅር የማይባል በደል መሆኑን ልብ ሊባል የገባዋል፡፡

ኢትዮጵያ የነጻነት ቀንዲል ነች፡እንደ ስበሃት ነጋ ላሉ ባንዳ ወያኔዎች ግን ጣሊያንን አሸንፈን ለመላው የጥቁር ህዝብ የነጻነት ጎህ ቀዳጅ መሆናችን ኩራት ሳይሆን እፍረት ስለሚመስላቸው አገሪቷ ከነሰንደቅ አላማዋ ጥፍታ ማየት የዘወትር ጥረታቸው ነው፡ ሌት ተቅን የሚተጉትም ለዚህ ስለሆነ የኢትዮጵያዊነት ሰሜት ያላቸውን ሁሉ ማሰር፤ መግደል፤ ማጥፋት ዋና ትግባራቸው ነው፡ ይህም ተግባራቸው ከበረሃ እስከ አዲስ አበባ ከዛም ጎረቢት አገሮች ድረስ ዘልቆ አሁን ደግሞ ወደ ምእራብ ሐገራትም መጣሁ እያለ ነው።

In my first weekly commentary of the new year, I “proclaimed” 2013 “Year of Ethiopia’s Cheetah Generation” (young people). I also promised to reach, teach and preach to Ethiopia’s youth this year and exhorted members of the Ethiopian intellectual class (particularly the privileged “professorati”) to do the same. I have also been pleading with (some say badgering) the wider Ethiopian Hippo Generation (the lost generation) to find itself, get in gear and help the youth.

29ኙ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች በጋራ ለመታገል ባለ አስራ አምስት ነጥብ የመግባቢያ ሰነዱ ላይ ነገ ተወያይተው እንደሚያፀድቁት የተገለፀ ሲሆን አገሪቱንና ኢትዮጵያውያንን ተጠቃሚ ያደርጋል ተብሎ እንደሚጠበቅ የፓርቲዎቹ ሰብሳቢ አስታወቁ፡፡ የመግባቢያ ሰነዱ የህዝብ የበላይነት እንዲሁም ዲሞክራሲያዊ መብቶች የተከበረበት ዘላቂ ህገ መንግስታዊ የመድብለ ፓርቲ ድሞክራሲያዊ ስርዓት መገንባትን ዓላማ ያደረገ እንደሆነና ውይይቱ ፓርቲዎቹን ወደ አንድ ፓርቲነት ሊያመጣቸው እንደሚችል ተገልጿል፡፡ የመድረክ የስራ አስፈፃሚ አባልና የፓርቲዎች ሰብሳቢ አቶ አስራት ጣሴ ለአዲስ አድማስ እንደጠቆሙት፤ ለሃያ ዘጠኙ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች የመግባቢያ ሰነዱ የተበተነላቸው ሲሆን ፓርቲዎችም በባለ 15 የመግባቢያ ነጥቦች ላይ በመስማማታቸው፣ በነገው ዕለት ውይይት አድርገው በሰነዱ ላይ ለመፈራረም ተዘጋጅተዋል።

Security detain Diasporic Artist, husband in Addis

Plain closed Ethiopian security officers have reportedly arrested  Eskedar Tameru, a member of United Kingdom based Ethiopian dance group, Dan-Kira and her husband Abebe Wondemagenhu, from their home around Bole area  in Addis Abeba last week, sources informed . Witnesses also added that at the time of the arrest the couple and the Officers didn't understand each other as the later spoke "little Amharic". 

The couple with their 2 year old baby traveled to Addis Abeba from London to celebrate Christmas and epiphany with their families. Eskedar and her baby have been released few days ago, while Abebe is still in custody. He was taken to Court  and was denied bail. He is appointed to appear in court after 20 days. Sources say their arrest was  due to "political" reasons.

በአራት ኪሎ ፣ ስድስት ኪሎ፣ ፒያሳ፣ መርካቶ፣ ብላሚንጎ ፣ ቦሌ እና ካዛንችስ አካባቢዎች ተዘዋውሮ ዘጋቢያችን ያነጋገራቸው አንባቢዎች በመጽሄቷ አለመውጣት ሀዘናቸውን ገልጸዋል።

አሜሪካ የመሸጉ የሕወሐት ሰላዮች ዛቻና ማስፈራሪያ መሰንዘር ጀምረዋል። አልፈው ተርፈው «ክስ» እንመሰርታለን ብለዋል። ለማስፈራሪያቸው የሚበረግግ ባይኖርም – ነገር ግን ነፃነት ባለበት አሜሪካ ያሉ የፍትህ አካላት በብርሃነ፡ስብሃት፡ በረከት፡አዜብ አሊያም ሽመልስ….የሚሽከረከሩ መስሎዋቸው ያለሃፍረት አንደበታቸውን ሞልተው ሲደነፉና ለማሸማቀቅ ሲሞክሩ መታየታቸው 

 …ምን ያክል የሞራል ድቀት እንደተጠናወታቸው ያሳያል። ባለፉት ወራት ከተሰነዘሩ ተራ ስድቦችና ዛቻዎች የትላንቱ ለየት የሚያደርገው ነጥብ ስላለ ነው፥ ይህችን መልክት ለመፃፍ የተገደድኩት። እነዚህ ሰዎች አሜሪካ ዋሽንግተን ዲሲ የመሸጉ የሕወሐት ሰላዮች እንደሆኑ ላሰምርበት እወዳለሁ። ከጀርባቸው ብርሃነ እንዳለ በግልፅ በአንደበታቸው አረጋግጠውልኛል። ዋናው አላማቸው ደግሞ « ሳንጋለጥ..ቀድመን እናሸማቅ፤ ..» ከሚል ከንቱ አስተሳሰባቸው የመነጨ ነው።

I read an article (a commentary) titled “Abebe Gellaw Vs Guesh Abera – Amharic version” by Wosenseged Gebrekidan posted on Awramba Times 26 January 2013.

Let me first say that in general I appreciate the writer for expressing his observation, feelings, criticism, and forwarding suggestive ideas about the necessity of staying focused on the bigger picture (the survival of the country), not on particular cases such as the alleged conspiracy by one of the worshiper of the late Ato Meles Zenawi to attack/kill Abebe Gellaw. I also appreciate his “genuine” concern about our poverty of civility, tolerance, rationality, accommodativeness, and etc.

ሰራዊታችን ተከታታይ ወታደራዊ ጥቃት ፈጸመ፡ ብዛት ያላቸው ሴት ታጋዮችም ግንባሩን ተቀላቀሉ!

የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ አርበኞች ግንባር ነበልባል ጦር ጥር 17-2005 ዓ.ም በወልቃይት ጎብለል በተሰኘ የወያኔው መከላከያ ካምፕ ላይ በወሰደው ድንገተኛ ማጥቃት በካምፑ የሚገኙ የመከላከያ አባላትን ደምስሷል። በውጤቱም 25 ሙት 36 ቁስለኛ እንዲሁም  20 ክላሽንኮፍ ጠብመንጃ ፣ 4 የእጅ ቦንብና 1 ስናይፕር ጠብመንጃ ከነ ሙሉ ትጥቁ በመማረክ በማግስቱ ማለትም በትናንተናው እለት በቀጠለው የነበልባል ሰራዊት ወታደራዊ ጥቃት በወልቃይት ጠበቆ በተባለ ቦታ 24 የአገዛዙ ታጣቂዎች ሙትና 29 ቁስለኛ ሆኗል። በድምሩ በሁለት ቀናት ውጊያ በጠቅላላው 49 ሙት 65 ቁስለኛ ሲሆን፦ የአምባገነኑ አገዛዝ ሰራዊት የአርበኛውን ጡጫ መቋቋም ተስኖት እግሬ አውጭኝ ብሎ ከመፈርጠጡም ባሻገር የውጊያ ሞራሉ ክፉኛ በመዳከሙ ምክንያት በአድጎሹ ፣ አደባይ፣ሁመራና እድሪስ አካባቢ የሚገኙ የጦር አመራሮች በመሰባሰብ የመልሶ መቋቋም እንቅስቃሴ ላይ እንደተወጠሩ ታውቋል።

ድሮ የምደግፈው የነ አበበ ጉርሙ የመቻል እግር ኳስ ቡድን ከጠፋ ከዓመታት ቦኋላ በትላንቱ ምሽት ለመጀመርያ ጊዜ የተከታተልኩትን ፣ በደቡብ አፍሪካ ፣ ብሔራዊ ቡድናችን ባሳዛኝ ሁኔታ በቡርኪና ፋሶ ተሸንፎ ጨዋታው ሲያልቅ ፣ ተደብሬ የቴለቪዢኑን መስመር ከኢውሮ እስፖርት ወደ ደች የዜና መስመር ቀይሬ ከባለቤቴ ጋር የዓለም ዜና ማዳመጥ ጀመርን ፡፡ በአፍሪካ አህጉራችን ፣ ማሊ ውስጥ ፈረንሳይ “የአልካሂዳን እንቅስቃሴ ለመቆጣጠር“ በሚል ርዕስ ዙርያ ፣ ፈረንሳይ ሁሌ ለዚህ አይነተግባር የምታሰማራቸውን ፣ ቅጥረኛ (ፈረንጆቹ ሜርሲነሪ የሚሉት) ወታደሮቿን እንደላከች በምስል በተቀረጸ ፊልም ካሳዩ ቦኋላ ፣ አንድ ሆላንዳዊ ድሮ በእንደዚህ አይነት ውትድርና ተቀጥሮ የነበረ ፣ ስለ ቅጥረኛ ወታደር ልምዱን ለተመልካችና አዳማጭ እንዲያካፍል ጋዜጠኛው አቀረበው ፡፡

ጀግንነት ፈፅሞ አለመሸነፍ አይደለም። ተሸንፎ መነሳት ነው ለብሔራዊ ቡድናችን ፣ለአሰልጣኞች እና ለደጋፊዎች ሁሉ

ለናይጀርያው ግጥምያ ዝግጅት ላይ

ትናንት አርብ ጥር 17/ 2005 ዓም በ ኢትዮጵያ የ ሰዓት አቆጣጠር ከ ምሽቱ ሶስት ሰዓት ጀምሮ ከ ደቡብ አፍሪካ የተላለፈው የ ኢትዮጵያ እና ቡኪናፋሶ የ እግር ኳስ ውድድር የኳስን መሰረታዊ ባህሪ በያዘ መልኩ ማለትም ማሸነፍ ወይንም መሸነፍ አንዱን መርጦ አብቅቷል። አዎን በ ኢትዮጵያ በኩል አራት ጎሎች ተቆጥረዋል። ጫወታው እንዳበቃ በመጀመርያ በጣም ተናደድኩ ትንሽ ቆይቼ ነገሩ አለመሞቱ ግን የ ቡድኑ ሞራል ምን ያህል ይሆን? የሚለው ብቻ አሳሰበኝ።ዛሬ ቅዳሜ ጫወታውን ደግሜ አየሁት።በ እውነት ትናንት ያልታዩኝ የተጫዋቾቻችን ድንቅ ጥበብ ታየኝ።ሰው አንድን ነገር ለመመልከት የረጋ ልቦና ይሻል የሚባለው ልክ ነው።ዛሬ ከስሜት ውጭ ሆኘ ስመከት ቡድናችንን የሚያስደንቁ ጥበቦቹ ታዩኝ።እናም የሚከበር ቡድን ግን አኛ ተመልካቾች ልናከብረው እና ልናደንቀው የሚገባ ነው ብዬ አሰብኩ።

ብስጭት በጨዋታ “…ቡርኪናፋሶ አበዛብኝ ለቅሶ!” አቤ ቶክቻው

እንደምን አደራችሁ ብስጭት እናስነብባለን 

በመጀመሪያም አርዕስተ ብስጭት።

በትላንትናው ዕለት ብሄራዊ ቡድናችን ላይ በደረሰበት መጠነ ሰፊ ጥቃት በርካቶች መበሳጨታቸው ተሰማ።

በቅድሚያ፤

ብሄራዊ ቡድናችን፤ በደቡብ አፍሪካ ያለ ኮከብ በሚያበራው የኢትዮጵያ ባንዲራ፤ በባለ አንበሳው ሞአንበሳ ባንዲራ በባለኮከቡ የፌደራሉ ባንዲራ እንዲሁም በባለ ዋርካው የኦነግ ባንዲራ ምን እርሱ ብቻ በባለ ቀንበጡ የኤርትራ ባንዲራ ሁሉ ሲደገፍ ተመልክተን እማማ ኢትዮጵያ ብዙ ልጆች እንዳሏት አየን ደስም አለን!

ከሁለት ሳምንት በፊት ከ35 በላይ ታንኮችን የጫኑ ከባድ ተሽከርካሪዎች ወደ ምስራቅ የአገሪቱ ክፍል የተጓዙ ሲሆን፣ ከሁለት ቀናት በፊት ደግሞ ከ30 ያላነሱ ታንኮች ወደ ሰሜን ተንቀሳቅሰዋል።

I don’t know whether CAF has a regulation that prohibits making a political statement during African Cup of Nations (AFCON) football matches. I know it’s not allowed making a political statement in Olympics.

A case in point; in 2012 a South Korean football player who made such a statement against Japan over a border dispute by revealing a symbol he hid under his official shirt after scoring a goal was banned from the medal ceremony.

This piece is prompted by the recent development of crisis in Pakistan where “Pakistan‘s Supreme Court has ordered the arrest of the country’s prime minister on corruption charges, heightening the already extreme political uncertainty and fears the country’s fragile democracy could be derailed.”

Pakistan is a conservative Islamic state where one would have expected least corruption but, lo and behold, endemic greed is surprisingly becoming the foremost issue threatening to plunge the fragile country already beset with severe politico-economic problems into a more catastrophic situation.

የ ‘ህዳሴው ቦንድ’ ግዢ ግርግር ሞቅ ብሎ በነበረበት ሰሞን ይነገር የነበረ አነድ ቀልድ አለ። የ‘ማረሚያ’ ቤት ፖሊሶች እና ታጋዮች 500 ብር በሰረቀ ሌባ ላይ ውይይት ያደርሉ። ተከሳሹ ብሩን ያላግባብ ይስረቅ እንጂ በገንዘቡ የህዳሴውን ቦንድ መግዛቱ ነው ጉዳዩን ለውይይት የዳረገው። ይህ ሌባ መታሰር የለበትም የሚሉት ታጋዮች፡ ለፖሊሶቹ ያቀረቡት መከራከሪያ ነጥብ ልማታዊ ሃሳብ ነበር። እንዲህ ነበር ያሉት፡ ‘ይህ ልማታዊ ኪስ አውላቂ ነው። እንዲያውም እንደዚህ አይነቶቹን ሌቦች የበለጠ እንዲሰሩ ማበረታታት ነው ያለብን።…’ ሁሉም በዚህ ሃሳብ ተስማሙና ሌባውን በያዘው ልማታዊ ተግባር የበለጠ እንዲሰራበት መክረው ለቀቁት።

ይህ እነግዲህ ቀልድ ነው። ቀልድ ደግሞ በመጠኑም ቢሆን የእውነታ ነጸብራቅ እነጂ ፈጽሞ ከእውነት የራቀ ክስተት አይደለም። ‘ልማታዊ’ የሚለው ቃል ትርጉሙ ተዛብቶ ምን ያህል እየተቀለደበት መሆኑን ከዚህ ቀልድ ግንዛቤ እንወስዳለን። በዚህ ላይ ወደሗላ እመለስበታለሁ።

አባ ሕዝቅኤልና በአዲስ አበባ የሚገኙት የሲኖዶስ አባለት ለእርቅና ለሰላም እንዲሁም ለሀያ ዓመታት የዘለቀውን የቤተ ክርስቲያን መለያየት ወደ አንድነት ለማምጣት በቅንነት እና ግልጽ በሆነ መንገድ ቢጓዙ ኖሮ ለዚህ ለከፋ መከፋፈል እንዲሁም ለመንግሥት ጣልቃ ገብነት ባልተዳረጉ ነበር ይልቁንም አባ ሕዝቅኤል  የመንግሥት ጣልቃ ገብነት አለ መባሉ ፈጽሞ ተቀባይነት የሌለው እንደሆነና ቅዱስ ሲኖዶስ ለምርጫ የሚያስፈልጉ ደንቦችን ከማውጣት በቀር መንግሥት ጣልቃ አልገባም በማለት በአደባባይ ተናግረው ጸሐይ የሞቀውን እውነት የካዱ አባት ናቸው አቡነ ገብርኤልም ይሕንኑ ሀቅ ክደው በአሜሪካ ድምፅ ራዲዮ በሰጡት ቃል የአባ ሕዝቅኤልን ውሸት ደግመውታል

The Ethiopian community in America is outraged to learn about the foiled plan of assassination attempt on Abebe Gellaw, an Ethiopian journalist in exile in the U.S. This clearly reflects the irredeemable criminal nature of the incumbent Ethiopian regime led by TPLF (Tigrean Peoples Liberation Front). According to credible media sources in the US, the plan of the assassination was foiled by FBI and the culprits are under investigation.

Today I realize why an Irish Historian Deborah Murphy once described my beloved Ethiopia as the land of beautiful women and handsome men. The foiled plot to assassinate activist/journalist Abebe Gelaw is an issue all freedom-loving people abhor and condemn. The plot, foiled by FBI, was an act of terrorism designed to take place in the United States – in the land of the brave and free and bastion of democracy where the rule of law reigns supreme. There is no doubt that the TPLF thugs will pay for their lawlessness.

On May 18, 2012, Abebe chanted: “Meles Zenawi is a dictator," and demanded “freedom before food”. He was right, for it is written in the Holy Bible, in Matthew 4:4 that, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Among those sentenced is a Kenyan national, Hassan   Jarso, who pleaded guilty when first charged in May. He was sentenced with nine Ethiopians.

Federal court Judge Bahiru Darecha sentenced Jarso to 17 years in prison. Eleven men were originally charged with the terror-related crimes but one was acquitted.

ፓርቲው አያይዞም የኢህአዴግ መንግስት  የሙስሊሞች ተቃውሞ ከሽብር ጋር ይያያዛል በማለት ቢገልጽም እስካሁን በታየው እንቅስቃሴ ጉዳዩ ከሽብር ጋር የተያያዘ ስለመሆኑ የሚታይ ምንም ነገር የለም ብሎአል። ከዚያ ይልቅ በሚያስደንቅና ጥንቃቄ በተሞላበት ሁኔታ የሙስሊሙ ማህበረሰብ ጥያቄዎችን በሰላማዊ መንገድ ማቅረቡን ፓርቲው ለመገንዘብ መቻሉን ገልጿል።

Henok Semaegzer: Spin doctor or reporter?

There is probably no reporter in VOA Amharic service’s history, save Mimi Sibhatu, whose dubious and deliberately manipulative reporting skills has raised eyebrows and controversies as much as those of Henok Semaegzer Fente. Some of Ethiopia’s well-known dissidents and rights defenders such as Tamagn Beyene, Obang Metho, Dr. Berhanu Nega, Abebe Belew, Neamin Zeleke and Abebe Gellaw, among others, have complained at various times on his dubious reports that are mostly borderline misrepresentation and over-edited or censored broadcasts that reflect a burning desire to do spin on sensitive political issues.

Millions of pounds of Britain’s foreign aid budget are to be spent on training an Ethiopian paramilitary security force that stands accused of numerous human rights abuses and summary executions.

The Guardian has seen an internal Department for International Development document forming part of a tender to train security forces in the Somali region of Ogaden, which lies within Ethiopia, as part of a five-year £13m–15m “peace-building” programme.

FBI foils murder plot on journalist Abebe Gellaw

BOSTON, Massachusetts - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has foiled a murder plot on award-winning journalist Abebe Gellaw.

The Ethiopian Satellite TV (ESAT) said on Tuesday the suspects were under FBI investigation.

(Assaman) —Independent human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty international, and the Anti-Torture Committee of the United Nations have several times reported of systematic persecution as well as use of violence and torture against Ethiopian journalists, opposition political leaders and members as well as anyone who are critical of the tyrannical regime. Amnesty International, for instance, says in its press release issued on 28 August 2012 that it regularly received several information about the use of torture in pre-trial and arbitrary detention.

The news Woyane plotted to assassinate the legendary Journalist Abeba Gellaw shouldn’t surprise anyone. It isn’t an isolated incident; many cadres in North America have been threatening Ethiopians through cyber space, by phone and in person to stop them from supporting the opposition camp for years. And many did comply than endangering their loved one at home. This case is different because Abebe Gellaw is refused to be silenced by the lowlife criminals in the US that are accustomed to get away with murder in Ethiopia.

የአንድ ሃገር ህዝብ በራሱ ማህበራዊ፣ ኢኮኖሚያዊ፣ ፖለቲካዊ ፣ተፈጥሮዋዊም ሆነ በሌሎች አዊዎቹ ላይ የተሰማውን፣ የታየውን፣ ቅር ያለውን፣ እንዲሁም ያደነቀውን ነገር ያለምንም ተጽዕኖና ፍራቻ መግለጽ ካልቻለ ሰው በመሆኑ ብቻ የተፈቀደለትን በነጻነት የማሰብ፣ የመጻፍና የመናገር ተፈጥሮዋዊ መብቶቹ የተነፈጉት ብቻ ሳይሆን በተለይም በዚህ በሃያ አንደኛው ክ/ዘመን የሰው ልጆች ከደረሱበት ዲሞክራሲያዊ መብቶች አንጻር ሲምዘን በከፍተኛ የነጻነት እጦት ከሚሰቃዩ የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎች ውስጥ እንዲመደብ ያደርገዋል:: ኢትዮጵያ በዲሞክራሲያዊና ሰብአዊ መብቶች መከበር ዙርያ (ደረጃው በተለያየ መልኩ ይገለጽ ይሆናል) ለረጅም ጊዜ ያደረገችው ሙከራና አሁን ያለችበትን የዲሞክራሲና የሰብአዊ መብቶች ነጻነት ላስተዋለ ሲደረጉ የነበሩ ሙከራዎች ሁሉ በተለይም ሲፈራረቁባት የኖሩት ገዢዎቿ ሲተገብሩት የኖሩት ድንጋጌዎችና መመሪያዎች  በርግጥም ለህዝቦቿ ዘለቄታዊ የዲሞክራሲያዊ ጥቅም የቆሙ ሳይሆኑ ለገዚዎቿ የስልጣን ጥቅም ማስጠበቂያ መሳሪያ ሆነው ሲያገለግሉ የኖሩ ናቸው::

 ሻለቃ ፀአዱ የህወሓት ታጋይ የነበረች ናት። ከኤርትራና ጣሊያን የዘር ግንድ ያላት ሻለቃ ፀአዱ የቀይ ቆንጆ ናት፤ ገፅታዋን በመመልከት ማንነትዋን በቀላሉ መገመት ይቻላል። የሽማግሌው ስብሃት ነጋ ባለቤት ነበረች። ሽማግሌው ስብሃት ከበረሃ ጀምሮ በአብዛኛው የድርጅቱ አባላት የሚታወቁበት ባህርይ ሴሰኝነታቸው ነው። ከፀአዱ ጋር ከበረሃ የጀመሩት ፆታዊ ግንኙነት እስከ 1990ዓ.ም ድረስ የዘለቀ ሲሆን በ <አብሮነት> ጊዜያቸው ልጆች አፍርተዋል። በኮንኮርድ ሆቴል ጀርባ ገባ ብሎ በሚገኘው የተንጣለለ ቪላ የሚኖሩት ሽማግሌው ስብሃትና ሻለቃ ፀአዱ ነጋ-ጠባ ሲያነታርካቸው የነበረው አስገራሚ « አጀንዳ» ፈንድቶ የወጣው ከላይ በተጠቀሰው አመት ነበር። በፓርቲው ሕግ፥ “አንድ የማ/ኰሚቴ አባል በትዳሩ ላይ ችግር ሲከሰት ጉዳዩ የሚታየው በድርጅቱ አመራር ነው”፤ ከዚህ ባለፈ ወደ ፍ/ቤት መሔድ አይቻልም።

በቅርቡ ከተወካዮች ምክር ቤት አባላት ለቀረቡ ጥያቄዎች “ጠቅላይ ሚንስትር” ሃይለማርያም ደሳለኝ የሰጡትን ምላሽ በጥሞና አዳምጬው ነበር¹:: በዚህ ምላሻቸው ከዳሳሷቸው ጉዳዮች ውስጥ ስለሃገሪቱ ሁለት አሃዝ ዕድገትና የትራንስፎርሜሽን ዕቅዱ አፈጻጸም፣ የኑሮ ውድነት በተለይም የምግብ እህል ዋጋ ግሽበት፣ መራሩን የሃገር ቤት ኑሮ በመሸሽ ወደ ዓረብና አፍሪካ ሃገራት በሚሰደዱ ወገኖቻችን ላይ ስለሚደርሰው ሞትና ዘግናኝ ስቃይ፣ ስለፖለቲካ እስረኞች፣ ኢትዮጵያ ከጎረቤት አገሮች ጋር ስላላት ግንኙነት፣ እንዲሁም በቅርቡ በአልጀዚራ ቃለምልልስ አስመራ ድረስ በመሄድ ከኤርትራ ጋር ያለቅድመ ሁኔታ ስለመደራደር ዋና ዋናዎቹ ነበሩ::

But there was one striking absence. Journalist Reeyot Alemu could not come to New York to receive her award because she is languishing in an Ethiopian prison. On January 4th, an Ethiopian court will decide Alemu’s final appeal. It is her last hope of freedom.

ወቅቱ 2003 አጋማሽ ላይ ነው። ሁለት የኢህአዴግ ሰዎች ድንበር አቋርጠው ናይሮቢ ይገባሉ። በናይሮቢ አድርገው ወደ ሌላ አገር ለመኮብለል ጊዜያዊ ማረፊያ መጠነኛ ሆቴል ይከራዩና ለሁለት አንድ ላይ ያርፋሉ። አንደኛው ከሰዎች ጋር ቀጠሮ እንዳለው አስታውቆ ወደ ጉዳዩ ይሄዳል። ቀጠሮው ቦታ ቆይቶ ለጓደኛው ስልክ ሲደውል “እንዳትመጣ፣ ጓደኛህን ከተኛበት ገብተው የማይታወቁ ሰዎች ወስደውታል” የሚል መልዕክት ይደርሰዋል። ከዚያን ቀን ጀምሮ ስለጓደኛው ሰምቶ አያውቅም። እሱም አገር ቀይሮ በስደት በመንከራተት ላይ ይገኛል።

Reeyot Alemu: Imprisoned for defending free speech in Ethiopia

January 4, 2013 -- It was only a matter of time before Ethiopian journalist Reeyot Alemu was sent to prison. Her country has become one of the most oppressive in the world for press freedom, with numbers of jailed journalists rising steadily each year.

 Alemu was arrested on June 21, 2011, and accused of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts and participation in a terrorist organization under the controversial 2009 Anti-Terrorism Proclamation. Based on no evidence other than her articles criticizing the Ethiopian government, Alemu was sentenced to 14 years in Ethiopia's notoriously ill-maintained Kaliti prison.

Once again, the federal police brutally shot dead a young boy named Kiya, 7, on Friday 4 January 2013 in the eastern city of Harrer during a demonstration and refused to release the body unless the family fork out 3,000 Birr.

Ethiopia’s PM marks 100 days in office

On 21 September 2012 Hailemariam Desalegn was sworn in as Ethiopia’s prime minister. He was regarded as a compromise candidate and many Ethiopians expected more political freedom. 100 days on, hope is fading.

 

A few days before Ethiopia's new prime minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, was sworn in, the Ethiopian government pardoned 2,000 political prisoners. Desalegn's inauguration coincided with the Orthodox New Year which falls in September. At the same time the Ethiopian government started negotiations in Kenya with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), a separatist group based in the eastern part of the country.

Civil society crackdown in Ethiopia

Despite a terrible human rights record, Ethiopia has joined the UN’s Human Rights Council.

On 1 January 2013, Ethiopia took up its seat on the United Nations Human rights Council. The uncontested election – Africa put forward five countries for five seats – has raised some eyebrows, given the country’s own poor rights record. Elected member countries are obliged to ‘uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights’. Yet, in Ethiopia, hundreds of political prisoners languish in jails where torture is common and a crackdown on the media and civil society is in full swing.
